Method

  1. Step 1

Coat each cheese slab in flour, then egg (opens in a new tab), then breadcrumbs (opens in a new tab). Repeat the egg and crumb layers for a secure double coating.

    • 10 min
  2. Step 2

Chill the breaded cheese for 30 minutes so the coating sets.

    • Step 3

Heat the oil in a deep pan to 175 °C. Fry the cheese two pieces at a time until deep golden, about 1–2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

Food safety: Never leave hot oil unattended and keep a lid nearby; fill the pan no more than a third full.

    • Step 4

Mix the mayonnaise (opens in a new tab) with the chopped pickles for tartar sauce and serve with the hot cheese and boiled potatoes (opens in a new tab) or chips (hranolky).

    How these numbers were made

    • Calculated from USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy) per-100 g values and the listed quantities.
    • *Per 100 g of combined raw ingredients; the cooked dish may weigh more or less.
    • Optional ingredients are not included: mayonnaise, dill pickles, potato.
    • “—” means the value isn’t known for enough of the ingredients; it is never zero by default.
    • Values are estimates for guidance, not for medical dosing. U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service. FoodData Central, 2019. fdc.nal.usda.gov.

    Good to know

    Common mistakes

    • A single crumb coating or oil that is too cool lets the cheese burst out.

    Storage
