Terms of use

Last updated

By using FriendsPantry you agree to these terms. They’re short and written to be read. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

1. The service

FriendsPantry is a free website for discovering recipes, planning meals and keeping track of what you cook. It’s free for everyone (see pricing). We may change, add or remove features, and we don’t promise the site will always be available or error-free.

2. Food, nutrition and allergens

  • Recipes are written for general home cooking. Use your own judgement: check that ingredients are fresh, cook food (especially meat, poultry, fish and eggs) to safe temperatures, and follow good kitchen hygiene.
  • Nutrition figures, diet labels and allergen information are calculated automatically from ingredient data (see sources & methods). They can be incomplete or wrong, and products vary. They are not medical, dietary or allergy advice. If you have an allergy, intolerance or medical condition, always check product labels and ask a qualified professional.
  • Prices, budgets and shopping quantities in the meal planner are estimates.

3. Accounts

  • An account is optional. You sign in with Google, and you’re responsible for keeping your Google account secure.
  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
  • You can download or delete your account data at any time from My Pantry Journey. How we handle your data is explained in the privacy policy.
  • Points, levels, streaks and achievements are a record of your own cooking, planning and learning. They have no monetary value, can’t be exchanged, and may be recalculated or changed (for example when we fix a mistake in the rules).
  • Kitchen League leaderboards are friendly competition based on what cooks report. Please play fair: only mark meals as cooked when you cooked them. We may remove scores or accounts that are clearly abusing the league. Display names must not be offensive or impersonate anyone.

4. Acceptable use

Please don’t misuse the site, for example by trying to access other people’s data, overloading or disrupting the service, scraping it in bulk, or using it for anything unlawful. We may suspend or remove accounts that do.

5. Content and credits

  • Recipe text, guides and the FriendsPantry name and logo belong to FriendsPantry. You’re welcome to cook from them, share links and print recipes for personal use; please don’t republish them in bulk.
  • Photos come from Pexels and Wikimedia Commons under their licences and are credited on each page. Their rights stay with their creators.
  • Nutrition data comes from USDA FoodData Central (public domain).
  • Notes and ratings you add to your cooking history are private to your account and remain yours.

6. Liability

The site is provided “as is”, free of charge. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect losses or for losses caused by relying on recipes, nutrition or allergen information. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t legally be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your rights as a consumer.

7. Changes and law

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the site means you accept them. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, but if you live elsewhere you keep the protections of your local consumer law.
