  3. Step 4

Fold in most of the walnuts (opens in a new tab). Spoon onto the lettuce (opens in a new tab) leaves and finish with the remaining walnuts and parsley (opens in a new tab).

How these numbers were made

  • Calculated from USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy) per-100 g values and the listed quantities.
  • *Per 100 g of combined raw ingredients; the cooked dish may weigh more or less.
  • Optional ingredients are not included: parsley.
  • “—” means the value isn’t known for enough of the ingredients; it is never zero by default.

Good to know

Tips

  • Dress the apples as soon as they are cut — the acid keeps them pale.

Common mistakes

  • Adding the walnuts hours ahead: they go soft in the dressing.

Serve with

  • With cold roast turkey or chicken, or as part of a holiday buffet.

Food safety

  • Mayonnaise-dressed salads should not sit at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour above 32 °C).

Storage

  • Best within a few hours; keeps covered in the fridge for 1 day, though the apples soften.

Variations

  • Chicken Waldorf: Fold in 250 g diced cooked chicken to make it a main course.
