How these numbers were made

  • Calculated from USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy) per-100 g values and the listed quantities.

Good to know

Tips

  • Keep the toppings in separate rows so everyone can see what they are getting — that's the point of a chef's salad.

Common mistakes

  • Dressing the lettuce in advance — it wilts under the weight of the toppings.

Serve with

  • With crackers or a bread roll for a full lunch.

Food safety

  • Mayonnaise-dressed salads should not sit at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour above 32 °C).

Storage

  • Undressed components keep 2 days in the fridge in separate containers; dressing keeps 4 days.

Variations

  • With Thousand Island: Swap the ranch-style dressing for mayonnaise mixed with ketchup and chopped pickles.
