Method

  1. Step 1

Pour the milk (opens in a new tab) into the blender (opens in a new tab) first, then add the yoghurt (opens in a new tab), then the banana (opens in a new tab) and strawberries (opens in a new tab) on top (ice last, if using). Liquid at the bottom lets the blades move freely.

  2. Step 2

Blend on low to break up the fruit, then on high for 30–45 seconds until completely smooth. Add a splash more milk (opens in a new tab) if it is too thick to move.

  3. Step 3

Taste — ripe fruit rarely needs sweetening, but add the honey (opens in a new tab) if you like — then pour and serve straight away.

How these numbers were made

  • Calculated from USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy) per-100 g values and the listed quantities.

Good to know

Tips

  • Peel and slice over-ripe bananas and freeze them in a bag: they make smoothies thick and naturally sweet.

Common mistakes

  • Putting frozen fruit in first with the liquid on top, which stalls the blender.

Food safety

  • Blended fruit keeps its natural sugars; a smoothie is more filling than juice because the fibre stays in.

Storage

  • Best immediately; keeps a few hours in the fridge (stir or re-blend).
