Method

  1. Step 1

Pour the milk (opens in a new tab) into the blender (opens in a new tab) and add the oats (opens in a new tab). Leave them to soften for a couple of minutes while you get everything else ready — it gives a smoother drink.

  2. Step 3

Blend on high for about a minute until no flecks of oat (opens in a new tab) remain. Thin with a little cold milk (opens in a new tab) or water if needed and serve.

How these numbers were made

  • Calculated from USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy) per-100 g values and the listed quantities.

  • “—” means the value isn’t known for enough of the ingredients; it is never zero by default.

Good to know

Tips

  • Freeze peeled, sliced overripe bananas — they make the smoothie cold and milkshake-thick.
  • A pinch of salt brings out the peanut flavour.

Common mistakes

  • Using sweetened peanut butter or flavoured yogurt, which adds sugar the ripe banana doesn't need.

Serve with

  • Drink as a breakfast on the go, or halve it for a post-exercise snack.

Storage

  • Best fresh. The oats thicken it as it stands; keep refrigerated up to 12 hours and loosen with milk.

Variations

  • Cocoa: Blend in 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder for a chocolate version.
