Ingredients

Method

  1. Step 1

Pour the almond milk (opens in a new tab) into the blender (opens in a new tab) and add the spinach (opens in a new tab). Blend on high for about 20 seconds until no flecks of leaf remain — greens blended in liquid first give a silky result.

  2. Step 2

Add the frozen banana (opens in a new tab), mango (opens in a new tab), lime juice (opens in a new tab) and chia seeds (opens in a new tab) and blend again for 30–40 seconds until thick and smooth.

  3. Step 3

Pour and drink straight away; the colour dulls as it stands.

How these numbers were made

  • Calculated from USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy) per-100 g values and the listed quantities.
  • *Per 100 g of combined raw ingredients; the cooked dish may weigh more or less.
  • Optional ingredients are not included: chia seeds.
  • “—” means the value isn’t known for enough of the ingredients; it is never zero by default.
  • Values are estimates for guidance, not for medical dosing. U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service. FoodData Central, 2019. fdc.nal.usda.gov.

Good to know

Tips

  • Start with less spinach and build up — the fruit masks it more than you would expect.

Common mistakes

  • Using lots of raw kale at once: it can taste bitter and turn the texture fibrous.

Food safety

  • Wash leafy greens well before blending.

Storage

  • Best immediately; up to 12 hours in a sealed jar in the fridge.
