Ingredients

1 glass (about 300 ml)

Method

  1. Step 1

Brew the espresso (opens in a new tab) and let it cool for a few minutes (or chill it), so it doesn't melt the ice cream (opens in a new tab).

    • 2 min
  2. Step 2

Blend the ice cream (opens in a new tab), milk (opens in a new tab) and coffee for about 20 seconds, just until smooth — over-blending makes it thin.

  3. Step 3

Pour into a cold glass, top with whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa if you like, and serve with a straw.

How these numbers were made

  • Calculated from USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy) per-100 g values and the listed quantities.
  • *Per 100 g of combined raw ingredients; the cooked dish may weigh more or less.
  • Optional ingredients are not included: heavy cream, cocoa powder.
  • “—” means the value isn’t known for enough of the ingredients; it is never zero by default.
  • Values are estimates for guidance, not for medical dosing. U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service. FoodData Central, 2019. fdc.nal.usda.gov.

Good to know

Tips

  • For children, use decaf espresso — it still contains a little caffeine — or a caffeine-free barley coffee.

Storage

  • Drink straight away.

Variations

  • Coffee cabinet (United States): Rhode Island's coffee milkshake, made with sweet coffee syrup instead of espresso.
