What it is

Wholemeal (whole-wheat) bread is made with flour containing the whole grain, so the crumb is brown and flecked with bran. It is denser and keeps slightly longer than white bread. 'Brown' or 'wheat' bread can contain mostly white flour with colouring, so read labels if you want genuinely wholegrain. Seeded and multigrain loaves are related.
