How these numbers were made

  • Calculated from USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy) per-100 g values and the listed quantities.
  • Optional ingredients are not included: roasted peanuts, fresh red chilli.
  • “—” means the value isn’t known for enough of the ingredients; it is never zero by default.

Good to know

Tips

  • Loosen with a splash of coconut milk instead of water for a richer, rounder sauce.

Common mistakes

  • Boiling hard — the sugars in hoisin scorch and the sauce turns pasty.

Serve with

  • With gỏi cuốn (fresh spring rolls), grilled pork skewers or lettuce wraps.

Storage

  • Refrigerate for up to 5 days; it thickens when cold.

Reheating

  • Loosen with a splash of hot water.
