What it is

Blackberries are glossy black fruits made of many small juicy drupelets around a white core that comes away with the berry (unlike raspberries, which are hollow). They grow on thorny brambles in late summer. Unripe berries are red and sour; ripe ones are fully black and come off easily.

Rubus fruticosus agg.
